“TOGETHER, WE CAN LEVERAGE OUR COLLECTIVE STRENGTHS” PRESENTING OUR NATIONAL HUBS: GHANA INTEGRITY INITIATIVE

As a long-standing partner of the Alliance for Integrity, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), part of Transparency International (TI), will support the local implementation of the Alliance’s anti-corruption efforts in Ghana. We got the chance to talk to the chapter’s Head Mary Awelana Addah about her contribution to our shared vision of a corruption-free society. Together with Michael Boadi, Fundraising Manager at TI Ghana, she will support our local trainers in Ghana, telling us she looks forward to joining efforts for mutual learning and strengthening of the global anti-corruption community.
What were your motivations to join the Alliance for Integrity?
Mary Awelana Addah: I am excited about the prospect of collaborating with a community of like-minded professionals and organizations. Together, we can leverage our collective strengths to foster a global business environment characterized by integrity, fairness, and an unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption. This personal connection fuels my belief in the transformative potential of ethical business practices, and I am eager to contribute to the Alliance's mission on this shared path toward positive change.
My decision to join the Alliance for Integrity is sustained by a deep appreciation for the remarkable work undertaken by the Ghana Integrity Initiative in championing ethical business practices in Ghana. Initiatives such as the Business Integrity Programme and the Ghana Integrity Awards, as well as multi-stakeholder business integrity platforms provided space to experience collaborative efforts with the private sector to combat corrupt practices. I am inspired to amplify my commitment on a broader scale and sharing these learnings with others.
GII's Business Integrity Programme has reinforced my belief in the pivotal role of ethical principles within business operations. I am passionate about fostering a business culture where integrity not only enhances a company's reputation but also serves as a cornerstone for sustainable and responsible corporate conduct. The Ghana Integrity Awards, which celebrate ethical excellence, have been a testament to the positive impact of acknowledging businesses that uphold the highest standards of integrity.
Furthermore, my alignment with GII's proactive engagements with the private sector to advocate against corrupt practices solidifies my conviction in the power of collaboration to instigate change. Joining the Alliance for Integrity is a natural extension of these efforts, providing an expanded platform to contribute to a global movement promoting transparency and accountability.
You will also support the local trainers of Alliance for Integrity in Ghana. What are you most looking forward to in the work with them?
I am anticipating the opportunity to collaborate with the trainers for several compelling reasons. Firstly, I am excited about the prospect of gaining valuable insights and knowledge from a store of rich experience from across the globe. Working closely with trainers provides a unique chance to tap into their wealth of experience, learn from their practical wisdom, and acquire skills that are not only relevant to my current role but also have broader applications in my professional journey.
Also, the collaborative environment with trainers offers an enriching platform for interactive learning. I look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions, exchanging ideas, and benefiting from the diverse perspectives that trainers bring to the table.
Collaborative work with trainers presents a unique networking opportunity. Building connections with professionals in the field opens doors to new possibilities, collaborations, and potential mentorships beyond the immediate training context. I am keen to establish meaningful connections that extend beyond the training period and contribute to my long-term professional growth.
